Etzion, Avner (“Neri”)


Son of Yaakov and Yemima. He was born in Atlit (9.9.1951) and studied at the Deganiyot Elementary School and the Grinberg High School, both in Tivon, where he completed his high school studies at the Jerusalem School for Evening Studies and received a matriculation certificate. He was a member of the “Tivon” Scout movement, first as a member of the “Alon” tribe, and later as a guide, later a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement, and his main hobby was listening to music and trips throughout the country. 1969, completed a platoon commander’s course and a parachuting course in the framework of a selected unit in the Israeli Navy, during which he attained the rank of First Sergeant, on May 18, 1972, His commanding officer died in the course of his duties and was buried at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and his commander wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “He was committed to the mission, uncompromising and without personal accounts. There was no task which she had difficulty with and which he was reluctant to perform with great composure and coolness. It was the love of life, physical strength, self-sacrifice that characterized him. Just as he was among the best of the long and arduous course, he was also one of the outstanding figures in his combat unit, which required technical talents. That was how he caught up with his old friends in a short time. These qualities made him a serious candidate for an increase in the command line of the unit, when the beginning of this process was expected to take place in the near future as part of an officer’s course. “
