Ernest, Aaron

Son of Dov and Shoshana. He was born on the 18th of Adar 5709 (March 14, 1949) in Rehovot. He attended the Smilansky Elementary School in Rehovot and continued his studies at the agricultural school in Kfar Silver because of a special fondness for natural science. Kfar Silver was a member of the local club, was active in target practice and was considered one of the best chess players. Aaron was devoted Lev to soul to his parents and family. Prior to his enlistment in the IDF, he studied at the Technicom Technical School in Tel Aviv and specialized in electronics, and was drafted into the IDF in mid-February 1968 and assigned to the Armored Corps. He had fulfilled his duties as a tank gunner with dedication and efficiency and had never complained about his life in the army. For two years he sat in the canal area and when he came home on vacation he would tell of his service in the canal area as a pleasant and easy experience. He loved his job and did not get out of his tank until he had to do so because of a disease (hepatitis). On 7 th of Tammuz 5770 (11.7.1970), he died of wounds he had sustained the day before in the performance of his duties, between Romney and El Arish, and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Rehovot. Generosity and kindness with all his friends, who joined him together and stayed together until the end.In the incidents of fire he always tried to go to the head of his friends to encourage them and help them. He was a tank gunner in an armored battalion on the canal line. After transferring to an educational unit in Sinai, he successfully and faithfully fulfilled all his duties, including providing services to the soldiers stationed in the line, transferring the soldiers’ letters to and from Sinai, supplying newspapers and magazines to all sectors, and more. In short, a role in it depends to a large extent on the relationship with the home and the home front and the result – the morale of our soldiers. I was allowed as a commander to express my personal sorrow and the sorrow of all the soldiers of the unit for taking Aharon away from us. “
