Erika, Eliahu (“Eli”, “Eliushka”)


Son of Yitzhak and Bronia. He was born on February 22, 1948 in Novograd-Volynsk, Russia. The family immigrated to Israel in 1961 and settled in Upper Nazareth. After studying in grades 7 and 8 at the Tabor elementary school, he started working as a tractor operator in Mitzpeh Ramon. He belonged to sports organizations such as swimming and other sports associations. At the age of 16 and a half, he entered a maritime school in Haifa, and after completing a six-month course he was drafted into the IDF in October 1965. He served in the Eilat destroyer and during his short vacations he did not allow himself to abandon the ship His comrades-in-arms did not leave for a long time, he only came to ask for the safety of his parents and his only sister, and he loved them and his commanders and served as an example to others. Eliahu was one of the best professionals in the destroyer and excelled in all the work that was imposed on him.Two years passed from the day of his induction until the bitter and hasty day came, (21.10.1967), when the destroyer was drowned by Egyptian missiles in front of a Romanian beach in northern Sinai – and Elijah went down with his teammates to eternal rest in the cemetery in Nazareth Illit.
