Engelman, Benyamin

Benyamin, son of Orna and Philip Engelman, was born on July 15, 1923. He was educated in Maccabi Youth and in 1938 his parents sent him to immigrate to Eretz Israel. He worked in the Geva group and settled with his friends in the Alumot group in Poria, where he raised the level of care of the dairy animals, increasing their yield. Benyamin participated in the attacks on the nearby Arab villages of Ein Mahal and Arab al-Zubayh at the foot of Har Tabor, in battles to stop the invading Syrian army in the Jordan Valley, and took part in the defense. On the morning of the ninth of Iyar 5708 (18.5.1948) an enemy shell fell in his vicinity and ended his life. Benyamin was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Degania Aleph. He left behind many letters and notes, attesting to his gentleness and articulation.
