Engel, Baruch
Ben Yeshayahu and Devorah. Baruch was born on June 17, 1946 in Romania. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1950, and they settled in Moshav Beit Gamliel in the Shephelah, where Baruch grew up and was educated. After completing his studies, Baruch joined the IDF and served in the Air Force and the Paratroopers Brigade, where he served as commander of the Yoav Fortress and was discharged from the IDF with the rank of Major. Baruch married Sarah, and they had three children. In 1993 Baruch joined the police, the Community and Police Division, and served as the commander of a volunteer base in Rehovot. Baruch’s friends and acquaintances remember him as a calm, pleasant man with an environmentally tolerant attitude, a craftsman in carpentry and handicrafts. On the 12th of Sivan 5762 (May 13, 2002), Rabbi Baruch passed away after a serious illness at the age of fifty-six, and was laid to rest in the Rehovot cemetery.
