Elroy, Zvi-Yehonatan

Zvi Yehonatan, son of Chana and Shimon (Peter), was born on February 16, 1951.Zvi was drafted into the IDF in mid-August 1969 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After completing basic training, he successfully completed a course for tank and tank commander courses and was finally certified as a tank commander. Throughout his service, Tzvi was a loyal and dedicated soldier and fulfilled the instructions of his superiors without hesitation or appeal. When he was released with the rank of sergeant and with the “Operational Service Certificate” his note was recorded on his release certificate: his behavior – very good. In August 1972, Zvi was discharged from the army and began studying in an electrification course on behalf of the Ministry of Labor. He was assigned to reserve duty in a newly formed reconnaissance battalion, and was sent to him by soldiers who were fierce and fighting. In the Yom Kippur War, this reconnaissance battalion was stationed at the edge of Arik Sharon’s armored division, and Zvi and his comrades fought in the battles of containment and break-ins against the Egyptians in Sinai, and they were among those who prevented the Egyptians from advancing from the territories they had conquered. Was important in breaking the attack of the armored Egyptian division, which marked the beginning of the IDF’s counter-attack. Zvi was at the head of the force that broke into the water line in preparation for crossing the canal to the west. On October 16, 1973, his tank was hit in the battle on the “Chinese farm.” He was wounded when he was taken to the rear of the house, where he was rescued and Zvi was killed. At first he was declared missing and was later brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
