Elly, John (“Johnny”)


Son of Avraham and Fanny. Born on May 11, 1939 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he graduated from elementary school. He was a member of the Habonim youth movement and stayed in the hachshara for one year. In 1963 he immigrated to Israel and at first worked in a factory. After a short period he moved to Ashdod and worked in the port. He was drafted into the IDF in June 1964. After his marriage he moved to Eilat with his wife and found work there, and after a year and a half, the couple moved to Be’er Sheva, where he joined the regular army. When he was called up for reserve service, he showed great devotion to his position and was very fond of his comrades in arms. On the 13th of Iyar 5729 (13.5.1969), he fell in the area of ​​the Suez Canal. He left a wife and a daughter. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva.
