Eliyahu, Uri


Uri, son of Simcha and Greib, was born on March 7, 1954, in Hadera, He studied at the Shiloh Elementary School and later completed his studies in the vocational high school “Amal” in Hadera, in 1971, in the field of mechanical frameworks and engraving. He was a diligent and good student and always helped his friends. He was courteous and polite, quiet and timid, and in practical lessons, his attitude was very serious. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement in Givat Olga and later became the sports coordinator in the Ken since his hobby was basketball. At parties the spirit was alive, and joy and mischief were in it. He was a loyal son and devoted to his parents, caring for his family and helping them as much as possible. In the peace of mind in which he was able to help them overcome any problem that arose. Uri worked in the paper factory in Hadera, was an outstanding worker, and achieved very high achievements. Work managers and employees alike have always praised him for his diligence, for his precise work, for his extensive professional knowledge, and for his efficiency. Uri was drafted into the IDF on May 1, 1972, and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade. After basic training and after completing a parachuting course, in a course for infantry and infantry commanders, the NCO had a jeep, a position for which he was proud. He was a dedicated soldier, with excellent physical and exemplary obedience, for whom he was awarded the “Operational Service Award”. He hoped that he would be able to serve as a security officer for El Al airlines after his discharge from the regular army, since the tension, he said, was the spice of life, from which he could enjoy such a job. On the 7th of Tishrei 5734 (October 7, 1973), he fell in the Yom Kippur War on the southern front. He was survived by a father, a mother, three brothers and a sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. His commander said he was the mainstay of the infantry brigade, with great patience, an understanding of the human soul, a symbol of the fusion of qualities that make the man a soldier and a good and devoted friend to his comrades and commanders. Meticulous and meticulous performance of every task assigned to him and his professional ability and physical ability, and his parents published a pamphlet in his memory containing the words of friends about his character and letters he wrote.
