Elisha, Joseph (“Latif”, “Toffee”, “Yossi”)
Son of Elisha and Sarah. He was born on 18.5.1949 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. In 1950 his family immigrated to Israel with him – and he was a baby then. When he arrived, he attended the Arlozorov Elementary School in Ashkelon and graduated with honors, which gave him Stefandia to continue his studies, but because of his family’s financial situation, he was unable to attend high school. He belonged to the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement. He worked at Solel Boneh as a galvanist. He was also a sports fan and a soccer goalkeeper. Was drafted into the IDF in February 1967, and about five months after the beginning of his regular service, he fell during an explosion in a bunker of ammunition in the upper customs house in front of the Bnot Ya’aqov Bridge on June 15, 1967. He was buried in a mass grave in the Nahariya military cemetery. His direct commander wrote to his parents that their son knew how to carry out orders and instructions and that he could be trusted even in difficult and dangerous positions. “Even during his last hours, Elisha filled his position with the same devotion he had.” His name was immortalized in the book “Bnei Ashkelon” published by the Municipality of Ashkelon.
