Eliov, Avigdor (Vitya)
Son of Sarah and Daniel, was born on January 7, 1924 in a tower near Tiberias. He studied at the school in his village and later in the years 1935-1939, at the Reali School in Haifa, he joined the Scouts troop. His education in an urban high school did not harm his roots in the village, and after completing his sixth year he moved to Kadouri Agricultural School, where he returned to work in his parents’ farm. Served as a guard in the Jordan Battalion in the years 1942-1944 and was about to leave for California in the spring of 1948 to study there in the agricultural sciences at the university. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he returned to service. Instead of acquiring the title of “agricultural engineer,” he preferred to be a “simple soldier,” as he put it. And indeed, Avigdor aspired to fulfill his duty with faith and perfection. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the “Barak” battalion of the Golani Brigade and took part in a raid on the Arab village of Abu Shusha, where he fell on October 3, 1948. Avigdor was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Migdal .
