Eliezer, Sales-Tamir

Tamir, son of Nancy and Abraham, was born on September 8, 1953, in Beer-Yaakov.Tamir was drafted into the IDF in late October 1971. He was first assigned to the Golani Brigade and later to the Medical Corps, where he was trained in a course for combat medics. He was a good soldier, loved by his commanders and loved by his comrades. His friend from this period tells of him: “On trips he always helped the weak, and when he dealt with the wounded, he worked quickly, diligently and swiftly, which was in complete contrast to his large body size and great hands.” For his service as a regular soldier he was awarded the “Operational Service Award”. In one of his poems, “Prayer,” Tamir wrote: “God / we wanted you to descend from time to time, to feel alienation, to coolness in the Lev / to the metal point that threatens to ripen, / And this is the little boy who asked ‘Why?’ We have all the power to contain it more. / We all knew that you are power from above, but we never knew that you were looking at yourself … / God, / Make it over …! ” When the Yom Kippur War broke out Tamir was at home and immediately felt like joining his friends in the Golan Heights. Day and night he treated the wounded with great effort and resourcefulness. On one of the days of the fighting, he collected a Syrian wounded man and treated him with great devotion. On October 18, 1973, he was one of the soldiers of a force that concentrated on Tel Shams to take action beyond enemy lines. Suddenly, artillery fire fell on them and Tamir was killed on the spot. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his father, mother, two brothers and three sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
