Eliezer, Avraham


Son of Reina and Bechor. Avraham was born on the 2nd of Shevat, February 25, 1917 in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. All his life Avraham dreamed of immigrating to Eretz Yisrael, but his heart did not allow him to leave his parents and realize his dream. Avraham married Erika and the couple had a daughter Hanna. When the War of Independence broke out in Palestine, Avraham informed his family that he was going to Israel to join the forces fighting for the establishment of a Jewish state His wife and daughter came to Israel after him and since he had to support them, he requested and received a special leave from the Artillery Corps to which he belonged and went to work in fortifications within the IDF Corps of Engineers. On the 4th of Tevet 5709 (5.1.1949) he was killed in a road accident near Ekron when he returned with his friends from the fortification work. Avraham was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Rehovot. He is remembered in the book “Heroes of the War of Independence Mount Zion”.
