Eliashvili, Zvi

Son of Chana and Rafael, was born on the 28th of Shevat 5727 (28.1.1927). He attended elementary school and went to work. With the outbreak of the Second World War he volunteered for the army, and when he was not accepted because of his youth, he went to serve as a guard. After six months of volunteering, he volunteered again for the army and this time he was accepted into the Jewish Brigade and served in Europe until the end of the war. After his release, he volunteered for the Palmach but was forced to ask for release in order to go to work and help support the family. He took part in the defense of the road to Jerusalem and its outbreak. At the time of the attack on Katamon, he was wounded in the back when he carried his wounded friend, and was therefore forced to walk upright and open in the fire. He lay for two weeks in a hospital and when he began to recover, he was taken out of it to make room for more needy people. Zvi felt that he still needed treatment and went to the hospital to ask him to be taken back for further treatment. On the way he was critically wounded with a shell-shell. He was returned by ambulance to the hospital and there on the 11th of Iyar, 11 May 1948, died of his wounds and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
