Eliashar, Eliyahu


Eliyahu, son of Zahava and Michael Eliashar, was born on December 26, 1932, in Baghdad, Iraq, and when he was about two years old he immigrated with his parents to Israel. Eliyahu attended the Alliance School in Jerusalem and was considered one of the best students in his class. When he finished his studies, he began to work in tailoring with his father, and over time was on his own. At the age of 13 he joined the ranks of Betar, later moved to the Irgun and took part in operations against the British. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was drafted into the Irgun and fought valiantly in Jerusalem, Shuafat, and Mount Zion, and fell in the conquest of Malha on the 7th of Tammuz 5707 (July 14, 1948). On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
