Eliash, Moses – Jacob

Son of Fanny and Alexander, was born on December 7, 1923 in Berlin, the capital of Germany, to which his parents came from Russia on their way to Eretz Israel. His father-in-law, Rabbi, sanctified the name of God in his death in the Ukraine. Was a year and a quarter old when his parents immigrated to Palestine in February 1925 and settled in Jerusalem. He taught traditional education, studied at Maaleh School and passed the London matriculation exams, Department A. At the Jerusalem University, he studied philosophy and Hebrew linguistics and was awarded the MA. He also studied at the Jerusalem Law School. Moshe-Yaakov excelled in history, was well versed in the Bible and literature, knew English fluently, as well as written and spoken Arabic, and at the same time was accredited by the University and by the law school. He was a sports enthusiast, he was a sports fan, he spent his summer vacation in the kibbutzim, at work, and afterward he practiced law as a lawyer, modest and honest, true-spirited, and diligent. He was careful not to be a combat soldier, but was drafted during the siege of Jerusalem and participated in battles in Ramat Rachel and elsewhere. After a few hours of vacation at his parents’ home, he returned to his position on Mount Zion, and the position was attacked. Several of his comrades were injured and he fell on the 8th of Av, 5708 (August 13, 1948). He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. He was followed by a wife who had carried her a few months before his death. On the 24th of Elul 5702 (24.8.1950) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
