Elias, Oded (Oded, Shaul)

Son of Avraham and Dina. Born on December 14, 1956 in Tel Aviv, Oded grew up in Ramat Gan, Ramat Gan, and completed his studies at the local elementary school. He was diligent and naturally intelligent. He finished high school in Tel Aviv without difficulties. In this way, he could also turn to social activities and sports, such as handball, walking, running and touring the country. The Scouts movement had a great role in shaping Oded’s character. He joined her at an early age and remained loyal to him in his service in the IDF, and he was promoted to the rank of instructor and later a battalion commander and course instructor. Where he learned to integrate into a group, to show solidarity in his relations with his friends and to develop a leadership that did not need to exercise authority so that his subordinates would fulfill his will. He insisted on carrying out every task. In everything that aspires to perfection. His adherence to the goal was absolute. Oded was deeply sympathetic to the goals of his movement, to the needs of the state and to the IDF, and he did not allow his students to harm them, whether by acting or acting, his patriotic sentiments were not sacrificed for the ideals he believed in. “Oded was one of the most active people we knew,” says a friend: “He had to encourage the kind of kindness you can not find today; “Oded always knew how to combine command-ability with social behavior.” When Oded’s time for military service was over, it was natural for him to volunteer for one of the most difficult and dangerous battle units: the naval commando . Who, if not he, would set an example for his friends? His military career was a quick journey of achievement that he never failed to achieve. After he graduated from the IDF in November 1974, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, parachuted into the sea, a naval commando and officers, and was promoted to lieutenant in July 1977. He was promoted to the rank of captain after his fall. He was the commander of a unit and engaged in operational activity in the Red Sea, while he was injured and fell on 8 December 1978. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents, brother and sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commanding officer wrote: “The soldiers and the soldiers are standing at attention and saluting in front of Oded’s fresh grave, remembering Oded as a true friend and yet as a fearless warrior. The family, the naval commando, the IDF and the State have lost a person who symbolizes the Lev of the nation. Thus, as the image of Oded appears, I would like the Israeli youth to be seen. For me and for the soldiers and soldiers of the unit Oded will be an example and a model, and so it will remain in our hearts forever. “
