Eliahu Safanov


Son of Chaya and Gad, was born on the 30th of Sivan, 5761 (April 30, 1961) in Russia. In his native country he completed seven years of elementary school. In 1975, he immigrated with his parents to Israel at the age of 14. He continued to study at the Johanna Jabotinsky Educational Institute, where he studied for two years. Afterward, he continued to study at the Amal vocational school in Be’er Sheva, in the framework of general frameworks. In August 1979, he enlisted in the IDF, underwent basic training and served in the IDF’s Armored Corps training facility in June 1980. He was promoted to Corporal. On the 19th of Av 5740 (31.7.1980) he fell while serving. He was 19 when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva. Survived by his parents and two brothers. The commander of his unit wrote about him in a letter of condolence to his family: “Eli was modest and quiet, loved his friends and commanders, and he performed his work efficiently and with dedication.”
