Eli, son of Chaya and Zvi, was born on 9.7.1954 in Petach Tikvah, where he grew up and was an elderly son of his parents, who were preoccupied with supporting the family, and his two elder sisters and caregivers raised him. But he could not be angry with him because of his education and beauty, he studied at the PIKA elementary school and was an outstanding student, even though he was not diligent and did not need to memorize lessons. His brilliant mind, memory, and comprehension were enough. So he had plenty of free time, too, and he did not waste it for nothing. On the contrary, he was always busy and preoccupied, as if the work was a lot and there was not enough time to do it. He was a central figure in social life, both in class and in school. He always stood out for his leadership, his alertness and his persuasive power, which no one could resist. He was surrounded by friends and used to organize trips, parties and other social activities. He loved sports, he was an outstanding athlete and he founded the school handball team and achieved great achievements with it. He was also responsible for the organization and technical management of the school’s sports days. In addition to these pursuits, he found time to help both students who had difficulties in their studies and those who were struggling with social problems. He used to invite them home, talk to them, encourage them and guide them. From his youth he was a member of the “Scouts” movement and later became a leader in the movement and was considered a good guide to the problems of his students and always ready to help. Toward the end of his studies at the elementary school, he volunteered to serve in the Maccabee-Esh Brigade and drew more friends with him to work there. During the Six-Day War he also volunteered to help distribute the mail. He continued to study at the Brenner High School and excelled in his studies without much effort. In the seventh grade he was sent by his school to a special electronics department, which was held at the university and was designed to encourage young talents. During this period he left the Scouts movement and became a leader in the youth movement, which seemed more practical and practical. Several evenings a week he devoted his time to this activity and organized various social activities for marginalized youth. At the age of seventeen, he was chosen to represent Israel in a youth delegation that left for Canada and the United States. Where he met with Jewish youth and appealed to him to immigrate to Israel, stressing that this was the only place where a Jew could be proud and for whom he should give up a life of luxury and abundance. Shortly after his return to Israel, the first American volunteers were already home. He had the wit and every instrument that had broken down in his house or his neighbors’ house, he corrected with great skill. He especially excelled in everything related to electronics and turned his room into a control room. With his own hands he built an internal telephone, through which he spoke to the occupants of the house, installed a special button that sent the elevator from his room on the sixth floor to his friends and arranged that the front door be opened with the click of a button. His high school teacher wrote about him: “I will not sin against the truth and it will not be a parasha, if I say that Eli was the glory of the youth, blessed with almost all the virtues that can be found in our world. Wonderful, who loved people and loved the country … He had integrity and integrity, and he was willing to fight for the sake of justice that he believed in. ” Eli was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, and after completing basic training, he became a tank gunner, a good and dedicated soldier, who did everything he had to do. During his period of service, he made sure not to worry about his family he loved, and wrote and called home at every opportunity, and very few would tell about his actions in the army and the conditions of his service.He did not complain. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he was with his unit in one of the dozens who stood up against the Egyptian attacks. On October 6, 1973, in the afternoon, his tank was hit by a missile after fierce and stubborn fighting, and he was killed and brought to rest in the military section of the Petah Tikva cemetery, leaving behind his parents And two sisters, and was promoted to the rank of corporal in a condolence letter to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Your son Eli was zealous in his intelligence, clear and articulate. His family commemorated the donation of a Torah scroll in his name; The house he lived in was named “Beit Eli”, according to the wishes of the residents of the house, which they dedicated to his memory.
