Eli, Leon (Lonnie)

Leon, son of Rivka and Yosef Eli, was born in 1927 in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. He made aliyah in 1948. He was injured twice, recovered and returned to the positions. Leon fell in Jerusalem from a sniper bullet fired at him from the wall of the Old City, and on the 5th of Cheshvan 5709 (7/11/1948), died of his wounds. He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 17th of Adar 5708 (August 30, 1950), he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
