Elbaz, Shmuel
Shmuel ben City and Pinchas was born on January 2, 1950, in Morocco and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1964. He volunteered to serve in one of the elite units of the IAF, which did much to build the strongholds along the Suez Canal. He was proud of the uniform and sergeant of the unit, and when it was his turn to leave the canal line, he wanted to stay there until the end of his service in the Israel Defense Forces. Not to worry about his parents, he often visited the house during vacations and kept in touch with his family. He never complained about the hardships of military life and went back to telling his friends that he “found his place” in the IDF, and after completing compulsory service he began studying at a vocational course of the Ministry of Labor. When the Yom Kippur War broke out he joined his reserve unit and fought in the Sinai front, and on October 29, 1973, he was seriously injured when a landmine exploded near the bitter lake. But all the doctors’ efforts to save him were unsuccessful and on the 7th of Cheshvan 5734 (November 2, 1919) 73), died of his wounds. He was brought to eternal rest in the Haifa cemetery. He left behind brothers and sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
