Elbaz, Avraham
Avraham, son of Soltana and Maimon, was born on December 4, 1950, in Fez, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1955. He studied at the Degania elementary school in Be’er Sheva and then continued his studies for another two years At the regional high school in Mishmar Hanegev. Then he took a job as a metalworker. Avraham was an intelligent and alert student. He was a sports fan and devoted most of his spare time to football. He was active in the Gadna, as part of his studies at the Mishmar Hanegev school, and was able to overcome the hardships when the smile did not touch his lips, and the belief in a better future did not break from his heart. He was a loyal and devoted son to his parents, and he helped them as much as he could, and Avraham was drafted into the IDF in early August 1971 and assigned to the infantry. After completing basic training and after completing a course in sappers, he was certified as a terrorist. After completing a cooks course, he was appointed a cook in one of the Golani Brigade battalions. He was a dedicated and responsible soldier and did his duty impeccably. During his vacations, even the shortest, he would help his grocer father in his work and ease the burden of his hard work. In the days leading up to the Yom Kippur War, Avraham was at home, on vacation that began at the beginning of the year. He was summoned to the unit two days before the war broke out. Avraham participated in the battle against the Syrians in the Golan Heights and on the 11th of Tishrei 5734 (7.10.1973), he was hit by an enemy attack on the Hermon post. At first his body was not found and he was declared missing. Not long after his body was found and identified, he was brought to eternal rest in the Beer Sheva cemetery. After he fell, he was promoted to corporal. His parents donated a Torah scroll to his memory. His comrades in the unit published a pamphlet in memory of the fallen of the unit, in which they spoke about his character.
