Elbaum, David (Dudi)
Son of Rachel and Shlomo, he was born on December 21, 1957, in Tel Aviv. He began his studies at the “Ilanot” elementary school in Ramat Aviv, continuing at the “Kol Yisrael Haverim” school, and completed his high school studies at the Ironi Gimmel vocational school. In September 1976 he joined the IDF and served in the Nahal Brigade. He underwent basic training and a series of courses, including an APC course, and in May 1977 he was promoted to Corporal. After being released from regular service, he married and moved to Herzliya. He joined the infantry unit in the reserves, where he continued his training and courses. In July 1982, when the Peace for Galilee War began, he was called up for reserve duty and joined forces that fought in Lebanon. He was chosen to serve as a noncom officer for his company commander. On 2 Av, July 22, 1982, his company fought a Syrian force in the central sector, and when a shell hit a Syrian tank, Dudi was severely wounded and shortly thereafter died of his wounds. He was buried in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv. He left behind a wife, parents and a sister, and after his fall David was raised to the rank of sergeant.
