Eidelman, Daniel

The only son of Sarah and Yehuda was born on June 14, 1922, in Brisk-Kuyavsk, Poland. Daniel immigrated to Israel with his family in 1925, studied at the Amami School in Afula and later specialized in the field of naval training. He worked in Afula in the office of the district commander, was arrested for belonging to the Hagana and was imprisoned in Acre. After his release he returned to his position in the Hagana. At the outbreak of the Second World War, he joined the British Royal Navy, served for a year in Israel and spent three years in Egypt, reaching the rank of sergeant. He kept up his national consciousness and was punished for it more than once. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he enlisted and served as a liaison in the Golani brigade. He was seriously injured in a road accident while riding his motorcycle and brought to a military hospital. A week later, on December 4, 1948, he died of his wounds and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Afula.
