Edigis, Abraham


Son of Ya’akov and Rina. He was born on April 12, 1942 in Pristina, Yugoslavia. After his birth he was taken with his parents and older sister to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where the years of World War II were spent. Near the liberation of the camp by the Russian army at the end of the war his father perished there. In 1948 his mother and sister immigrated to Israel and since 1951 lived in Jerusalem. Avraham graduated from the Geulim Elementary School, where he was one of the outstanding students in the class despite the difficult economic conditions in which he grew up. Afterward, he attended the high school and was active in the youth movement of the United Movement. He joined the IDF in October 1960, and served in the Nahal Brigade, where he served in the kibbutzim of Kfar Aza and Ganeiger, and later served as the deputy commander of the Nautra outpost. After completing his military service, he studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in economics and political science, and during this period was active in the Student Union. When the Six-Day War broke out, it was part of the Paratroopers’ reserve duty. After completing his B.A., he continued his studies in the Communications Department, but on the day he was about to receive his certificate, Avraham fell; This was on the day of Tu Bishvat (February 14, 1968) when he encountered an ambush of a Jordanian squad near Umm Short in the Jordan Valley. Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. A memorial book was published in his memory and in his name by his family and friends in Jerusalem. In the book “Nizkor”, published by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Student Union, edited by Yehuda Ha-Ezrahi, his history and a brief description of his last sacrifice were presented.
