Eckstein, Yitzhak
Son of Jacob and Clara. Born on 25.6.1952 in Kiryat Haim, he studied at the Sprinzak Elementary School in Kiryat Binyamin and completed his studies at the Reali High School in Haifa, and was a member of the “Working and Studying Youth” branch of Kiryat Ata And in Gadna air. In high school, he excelled in the subjects of citizenship and knowledge of the country, and participated in a national competition for youth with the knowledge of the country, which was held at the Binyanei Ha’uma in Jerusalem. But most of all he loved everything about flying. Yitzhak devoted his whole Lev to Gadna, as an apprentice and as a guide, and it is no surprise that he chose the “Air Force in the War of Independence” as part of his matriculation certificate. And applied for an aviation course, but was disqualified for reasons beyond his control. Despite his heartache and disappointment, Yitzhak decided to fulfill his duty as best he could and volunteered for an elite infantry unit, one after the other a sapper course, a parachuting course and a squad commanders’ course, and played a vital and responsible role in his unit. He was a good soldier, a loyal friend, a man dedicated to his work and loved by his friends. He spent most of his service in the front lines and was awarded the operational service certificate. On the 13th of Adar 5733 (17.3.1.1973), Sergeant Yitzhak fell during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
