Eckhaus, Zvi (Hersch)
Zvi, son of Rosa and Yitzhak, was born on November 1, 1944 in Orinburg, Russia, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1949. He studied at the “Hameiri” elementary school in Lod and then completed his studies at the vocational school “Amal” in Ramla, in professions of engraving and frames. Zvi (who was called by the family and friends by the name of Tzvika, Zvi, and Acha) was both a serious and smiling child. During the Six-Day War he participated in battles in Um-Katef and fought with courage and resourcefulness. After completing his regular service, he began to work as a whistler in the Ushpiz factory for electric motors, and since 1972 worked at Jungard Science Industries in Holon. After he married and had children he was a good husband and a devoted and understanding father. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he stood up in his unit and took part in the battles in the Golan Heights. On October 10, 1973, Zvi was killed by enemy aircraft in the area between Tel a-Saki and Ramat Magshimim, near El-Al. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by a wife, son and daughter, parents, brother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
