Was born in 1945 in Yemen and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1949. The family settled in Kiryat Ata, where Yosef completed elementary school and was accepted to a vocational school where he learned the profession of welding, He joined the IDF in mid-November 1962 and was stationed in the Transport Corps. After basic training he underwent a driving course and was assigned to one of the units. He fought with his unit during the Six-Day War and was given the signal of battle.
