Drotman, Dov

Drotman, Dov

Son of Malka and Mordechai. He was born on May 14, 1923 in Poland. After her divorce, the mother immigrated with her son Dov in 1937 to Eretz Israel. Dov studied in a vocational school in Israel. At the outbreak of World War II, Dov accepted the call of the leaders of the Yishuv in Palestine and volunteered for the British army. He was assigned to the 462 Hebrew Transport Unit and served in its ranks throughout the Middle East. Before the invasion of Sicily, a convoy of ships headed by an army and equipment headed for Malta left the port of Alexandria. At the head of the convoy was the ship “Arinapura”, which was carrying members of Unit 462. On May 1, 1943, a German reconnaissance plane spotted a German reconnaissance aircraft that was calling the bombers attacking the convoy. The “Aryanpura” suffered a direct hit and went down to the depths taking 140 soldiers from Unit 462, and a bear between them. Left a mother. His name is commemorated in the “Book of the Press” in the “Volunteer Book” and in the periodicals, and on the first anniversary of the disaster, a special booklet was published for the soldier at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery. The soldier is a maklan – a soldier whose burial place is unknown.
