Drori , Yosef (Yossi)

Joseph (Yossi), son of Miriam and Israel, was born on April 29, 1952 in Jaffa, where he studied at the Weizmann elementary school in Jaffa and at the Shivtei Israel elementary school in Jaffa. After graduating from elementary school, he began working as a apprentice at the art factory in Jaffa and studied at the ORT vocational school in the city, where he worked for a few months as an apprentice at a carpentry workshop in Jaffa. Yosef was drafted into the IDF in mid-October 1970 and assigned to the General Army. After completing his basic training, he was assigned to the headquarters of the Gaza Strip and served there as an operations officer and as a storekeeper in Rafah. His commander wanted to advance him, so he sent him to an army education course for soldiers in a military school. Yossi did all his military service in the Gaza Strip, and as a veteran of the place, everyone knew him and he was admired by commanders and soldiers alike. In his release certificate from the regular service, he stated that he had fulfilled his duties with great devotion and efficiency and that he was “very entrepreneurial and diligent in his work.” When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Yossi was about to finish his regular service. His service was extended and he participated in the war. On Wednesday, November 29, 1973, near the Erez checkpoint in the Gaza Strip, Yossi was killed and laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, leaving behind his parents and sister. He was promoted to the rank of corporal .
