Drori, Nimrod


Son of Bezalel and Dina. He was born on the 10th of Elul 5708 (10.9.1948) in Hulata, where he was born in the midst of the War of Independence, his mother overcame the horrors of the Holocaust, and his father was one of the writers of a book, a lifeguard and a phalanx warrior. He attended the Meged Elementary School in Ra’anana and after completing his studies, he attended the “New High School” in Tel Aviv. He was a quiet guy who did not talk much. To the question “How are you?” What was new? “He would always say in a single word:” All right, “because everything was simple for him – and in order, as quiet as he had said, but not indifferent, and beneath him the quietness of life. The calm and quietness of complacency was a quietness that characterized a man of execution, a man whose expression was in deeds and not in words, and in the absence of a stormy feeling that would disturb him if his mind was clear and open to quick response and resolute determination It was a sense of humor that was revealed in momentary brilliance and jokes that he gave out in passing, but this sense was restrained. He was well-versed in nationalism and felt the need to serve in the army and in the best possible way – and that motivated him to volunteer. At first he thought of a pilot course and then decided to go to the submarines. So he volunteered for the navy. He was the second generation in the family to serve in the navy; as his father, Nimrod volunteered to serve him. He knew his duty: to destroy a target and to kill enemy armies. But he was not eager for war; He did not want to hurt anybody. Nevertheless, he took part in a daring and very dangerous operation. He was an excellent diver and once won a good grade for his excellence in the divers course, but he did not tell anyone, as was his wont, that the fact that he was first was natural and self-evident. He served in the submarine “Crocodile”, which did an operation in the port of Alexandria. When he returned from the war, he was asked: “Where were you? What did you do?” He answered, “I was abroad and did what I had to do.” He had all the good qualities of a diver: peace of mind, restraint, the ability to live together and Nimrod searched for the unusual, daring, and challenging of the war, and went to England to serve in the Dakar submarine, but when the submarine was on the sea route between Gibraltar and Israel on its way to the port of the house, This was on the 24th of Tevet 5728 (25.1.1968) The Chief Military Rabbinate determined that the date of Nimrod’s passing, On January 30, 1968.
