Dray, Shraga (Charlie)


Son of Moshe Varna. He was born in the city of Oran, Algeria, on 28 November 1933. He completed his studies in a government elementary school, where he studied mechanics in the ORT school and immigrated to Israel in 1953. He was drafted In March 1955 and on March 29, 1956, during the Sinai Campaign, he fell while carrying out his duties with his friend Aharon Elimelech. They boarded a mine near Gaza. He was brought to rest at the cemetery in Tel Reim. He left a wife and two daughters. Near Kibbutz Re’im on the border of the Gaza Strip, a forest was planted in its memory by the Jewish National Fund – donations from Jews of the country of origin of the deceased and members of the Dror movement to which he belonged prior to his arrival in Israel.
