Dotan (Matenka), Ehud (Udi)

Dotan (Matenka), Ehud (Udi)

Ben Mira and Moshe. He was born on January 23, 1970 in Givatayim. A brother to Ronit (Rona). He studied in his hometown, in the Ofakim elementary school and in the Shimon Ben Zvi high school. In 1988, Ehud began a pre-military course in the IDF Intelligence Corps in the 8200 unit. Ehud went to an officers’ course and in the spring of 1992 began his career in the regular army and served as an intelligence officer Outstanding and valued until his death. Anyone who got to know Udi finds it difficult to find words to describe his special character, his knowledge, his wisdom and his unique perception of life. Udi was a life-loving, broad-minded man, a man of letters, modest, impressive and prominent, full of warmth and love for his family and loyal friends. Udi had a rare ability to observe, and his intelligent questions illuminated the way for those around him. His family was always at the top of his mind. He was an exemplary family man, a loving partner to Yael – his wife from youth he married in 1993, a loyal son to his father and mother, a wonderful and supportive brother and a wonderful uncle. Ehud was courageously and resolutely confronted with cancer for nine years and continued to give warmth and optimism to his surroundings. “Udi embodied the classic qualities of an intelligence man, rapid perception, critical thinking and intellectual honesty” (from his colleagues in the unit). “Udi was not only a professional of the scale, but also a senior manager with a broad vision, who has the ability and vision of the system for the long term and immediately, and has impressive ability with people” (from his commander). “Even in the difficult moments, he knew how to be a good friend, a guide, a sympathetic ear, a supportive shoulder, a heart that receives and loves his friends.” Despite all the efforts and hopes, the disease has overtaken the greatest optimistic warrior. Ehud died on August 10, 2001, with his family next to him, and was laid to rest at the “Gordon” cemetery in Rishon Letzion. His character continues to accompany his family every day. As he left he left a wife, mother and sister. At the age of thirty-one, Major Ehud (Udi) Dotan (Matenka) was dead.
