Dorot (Roth), Shlomo
Son of Zvi and Rivka. He was born on 29.9.1943 in Afula. He studied at the Ohel Meir Elementary School and completed his studies at the religious high school in Afula. From his childhood Shlomo was educated to the love of the Land of Israel and to the admiration of the work and the village. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement in Afula. He had two hobbies – sports and music. In his youth he was a member of the Hapoel Hapoel Afula group and even played clarinet in the Afula orchestra. He was hidden, and lived modestly, and yet accepted in society, listening attentively to the words of others and respecting all of them. Shlomo was devoted to his parents and loyal to his family. His goal was to establish a home in Israel based on healthy and productive village life. Shlomo was drafted into the IDF in November 1961. After completing basic training, he completed courses in the fields of tripartism and progressed rapidly in the ranks and positions he was assigned to, where he volunteered for the career army and served there until his dying day. In his last position he worked in the Merhav-Shlomo Command to improve the unit’s functioning, and Shlomo did not forget his childhood dream, and with the help of his friends he bought a farm in Moshav Didi-Chemed and settled there with his family. His drink and fulfill his dream. On the 27th of Tishrei 5736 (2 October 1975) Shlomo fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife, daughter and parents. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Shlomo was a devoted, honest and fair commander, and his dedication to his work knew no bounds and his love for the IDF was nothing. He saw his mission in life as a fulfillment of his duty, in the best way, and thus contributed greatly to his unit and the state. “
