Dornberg, Reuven

He was born in 1912 in Dortmund, Germany. As a boy his father died and Reuven remained the only son of his mother. He studied at a German high school and was far from Judaism and Zionism. With the rise of Hitler to power in Germany there was a great change in his life as he stood on the shaky foundation of the world of concepts and principles on which he was educated. He became acquainted with his Jewishness, left the trade house where he worked and went to pioneering training with a Dutch farmer. For three years, he prepared himself for agricultural work and prepared his body and spirit for immigration to Eretz Israel. At the same time he also learned the Hebrew language and was interested in acquiring knowledge of what was happening and emerging in Israel. In 1936 he immigrated to Israel with a group of pioneers from the Netherlands who settled in Ein Harod. In the kibbutz he worked in a cowshed and various crafts but found no satisfaction in the established and veteran agriculture. A few months later he joined Sdeh Nahum, a kibbutz that established a new kibbutz. Here he participated in all areas of activity in the agriculture, and after a while he was appointed to the “Gafirim” station. This role was also fulfilled with dedication and responsibility. “Reuven was a modest, quiet, enterprising and active member, with a courageous and fearless Lev that filled all his duties, and he was not tired and satisfied in his work in the kibbutz building and at the point. He aspired to perfection and when he did not see it in our daily lives he was filled with disappointment, but he did not come to despair, and always hoped that the situation would change for the better. ” At the beginning of 1940, clashes continued between the settlers of Sde Nahum and the Bedouins in the area of the “Sanha”. On June 25, 1940, a group of friends from Sde Nahum was attacked by dozens of Bedouins. The attackers used clubs, clubs, and stones, and were assisted by cavalry. The members of the group, headed by Reuven, fought the rioters. Three members were injured and Reuven was wounded and killed. He was laid to rest in Sde Nahum.
