Donio, Nissim
Son of Yochi and Albert, he was born on February 15, 1963 in Jerusalem. He attended the Hameiri Elementary School in Jerusalem, continued to study at the junior high school in Kiryat Hayovel, and at the high school in Neve Hadassah. He spent the last two years of his studies at the Mevo’ot Yam maritime school in Michmoret. In January 1981, he enlisted in the IDF, underwent basic training, completed a paramedics course and was assigned as a combat medic in the Engineering Corps, with the rank of Corporal. On 15 Av (4.8.1982), he fell while serving while his vehicle veered off to the side of the road and collided with the bus in front of him. He was 19 and a half when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, brother and two sisters. The commander of his unit wrote about him in a letter of condolence to his family: “The soldiers of his unit were fond of Nissim … his death is a loss to his family and the IDF.”
