Donda, Jacob


Son of Tova and Abraham. He was born in 1919 in Russia and immigrated to Israel with his family when he was one year old, his family settled in Tel Aviv and Yaakov studied at the Alliance Israelite Universelle. From his childhood, he discovered a musical talent when he played without guidance in the harmonica and charmed his audience. In his youth, he belonged to the “community” scouts, and as a teenager joined the ranks of the Hagana. During the 1936-1939 riots, he enlisted in the Guard Corps. Jacob was loved by his friends, a loyal friend with great personal charm. When World War II broke out, he was among the first volunteers to join the British army and was assigned to the medical corps as a medic. He served in Egypt and Iraq. On the 18th of Adar 5703 (March 3, 1945), he was killed in a plane crash on Italian soil. He was laid to rest at the British military cemetery in Bari, Italy.
