Distenfeld, Dov


Son of Moshe Chaim and Chava. He was born on May 15, 1931 in Romania. He completed his studies at an elementary school in Suceava, and after studying in the first grades of a high school he moved to a vocational school in Bucharest. He belonged to Bnei Akiva. He spent his youth in the detention camp in Transnistria, where his father perished. Upon his release he immigrated to Israel, but on his way he was sent to Cyprus by the British along with thousands of his brothers. In Cyprus, he was in training for the Hagana. When he arrived in Israel in 1947, he entered the Neve Amiel institution. In 1948, during the fighting, he volunteered to serve in Ein-Hashofet and participated in the repelling of the Kaukji army from Sha’arei Mishmar Ha’emek. He was drafted into the IDF in 1949. Almost upon his discharge from the army, he was still planning his civilian life, participating in a battle with the Syrian enemy, and in the same battle at the Jordan River. At the mouth of the Sea of Galilee near the Sea of Galilee, on the 5th of Nissan, 5701 (1951), he fell and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Rosh Pina..
