Diner, Itai
Son of Wilma and Chaim. He was born on the 6th of Shvat, 5716 (8.1.1976) in Rishon Letzion, where he studied at the “Sinai” elementary school in the city, continued in the preparatory course in Givat Shmuel, where he finished eighth grade and moved to the Bar Ilan Junior High School. He studied at the religious technology school “Emit Dan Bloc” in Ramat Ilan, in the real sector. Itai excelled in his studies and was a candidate for the academic reserve. In his youth he was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement. At the end of July 1994 he was drafted into the IDF, trained as a combat soldier and served in the Givati Brigade, and his commanders said that he was outstanding and that it was a pleasure to be with him. On April 9, 1995, I was killed while carrying out a car bomb near the bus in Kfar Darom. Six other soldiers and one civilian were killed and many were injured. Itai was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Rishon Letzion. He was nineteen when he fell. Survived by his parents and two sisters – Einat and Hila. After his death he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, Chief of Staff Amnon Lipkin-Shahak wrote: “Itai served as a combat soldier in the ‘Shaked’ Brigade of the Givati Brigade and was described by his commanders as a model soldier who showed a high personal level and loved to help those around him.” : “Itai was popular among his comrades in the company, and always liked to help and contribute beyond what was needed. An outstanding soldier who was nominated to be a squad commander, and to continue to advance even as an officer in the unit. “After the attack, reports were published covering the event, including Itai, and his family commemorating him in several ways: a charity fund for needy families, A Torah scroll was put into the synagogue where he used to pray, and a kindergarten called “The Garden of Itai” was built in the “Oranit” building, which serves as a hostel for cancer-stricken children in Petah Tikva.
