Diamond, Gabriel (“Gabi”)


Son of Zeev and Ola. He was born on the 5th of Tevet 5704 (5.1.1944) in Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov, after graduating from elementary and high school in Ashdot, was drafted into the IDF in November 1962. He served in the paratroopers and during the Six Day War fought with his unit in Ramat Hagolan. At the end of the war Gabi returned to the farm and worked there in the olive grove. He was known for his extraordinary energy and originality. He excelled in acting and dancing, and stood out with his participation in the parties of holiday events in the agriculture. In his military service he reached the rank of lieutenant. Recently, at the end of June 1968, he entered the permanent army, claiming that he did not feel well to live in the agriculture when there was more work in the army. But Gabi did not have time to serve him long, because after about two and a half months he got on a mine during operational activity and he was seriously wounded and a week later, on 26 September 1968, died of his wounds in the hospital; This was in the performance of his duties in Wadi Jabin on the Golan Heights. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Ashdot Yaakov (Meuhad). His kibbutz issued a pamphlet in his memory.
