Dgani, Uzi

Uzi, son of Chika and Aharon, was born on 17.2.1945 in Kibbutz Yad Mordechai. Uzi was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1963 and assigned to Noah After graduating from basic training, he was assigned to a platoon commander’s course and was sent to a course for infantry officers and was assigned to a field unit as a commander. “He always took care of all the social events organized within the unit and was known as an initiator, as a perpetrator,” and someone who can always be relied upon in everything. “After being discharged from regular army service, he returned to his kibbutz, married his girlfriend Hannah and eventually had two children. Uzi was very proud of his young sons and used to say that his ambition was to educate them to the love of life, courage and healthy playfulness, which was not bad. He excelled as a dedicated worker in every industry he worked on the kibbutz. He invested his time and energy in organizing various cultural activities for members of the kibbutz. He had always loved theater and in his last years had decided to be a director. He studied drama at the Kibbutzim College and began directing plays. A book-loving man was Uzi and read many books, poetry and plays. In the Yom Kippur War, he joined his unit and fought in the northern sector on the Sinai front, as a company commander. In a battle that took place on the 15th of Tishrei 5734 (October 15, 1973), near the Budapest post, he was hit by a bombardment that landed an Egyptian commando ambush and was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Yad Mordechai. He left behind a wife and two sons, a mother and a sister. After his fall, he was promoted to the rank of Major.
