Debra, Meir
Son of Hanna and Abraham. He was born on September 2, 1944 in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Bialik Elementary School and continued his high school studies at the ‘Lel’ high school. His studies in the school were conducted as he worked in the morning. He then went to study at the IAF’s pre-military technical school in Haifa. Meir was a member of Hanoar Haoved and later of the United Youth Movement. He liked to read and was active in sports, theater and hiking. Was a sociable young man who enjoyed a variety of entertainment and sports at the seashore. Meir was drafted into the IDF in May 1962 and served in the Israel Air Force, and after his discharge from the IDF he worked for a bank and an insurance company. He then married Nitza and the couple settled in Haifa. Meir was active in the Shinui party and participated in the establishment of the Tzavta Theater in his hometown. Was a dedicated family man who liked to spend time with his extended family, including his young nephews, whom he used to be Simcha with. Meir was called to reserve duty in November 1987. He fell during his service on the 10th of Kislev 5748 (10.12.1987) and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Holon. He put Raya, his parents, his brother and sister – Gabriel and Esther. In a letter of condolences to the bereaved family, his commander wrote of his dedication and loyalty, and of the fact that in the last reserve service he was very fond of the soldiers of the platoon with his good character and pleasant expression.
