Dayan, Shimon


Son of Murad and Hatun. Born in 1949 in the city of Basra, Iraq, he immigrated to Israel in 1951. Shimon completed his studies at the Achva Elementary School in Be’er Sheva and then studied for one year at the Amal vocational high school in the electronics field. However, since the family situation was very difficult and the parents could not pay their tuition, Shimon left the school to help them, and after a while he came up with a suggestion that he could continue his studies without tuition. He was an athlete and was a member of the basketball team of “Maccabi” in Be’er Sheva. He also participated in various sports competitions in the Negev regions. Until November 1966, when he enlisted in the IDF. When he was found in Khan Yunis on the 11th of Kislev 5728 (February 16, 1968), he fell while carrying out his duties. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Be’er Sheva, in “Yesodot”, the organ of the workers’ union, his memory was raised
