Dayan, Ofer

Son of Rina and Israel, was born on the 27th of Kislev 5727 (27.11.1964) in Haifa. Ofer studied at the Maale Hacarmel School, the Leo Baeck School, and at the “Basmat” and “Shuv” professional schools, and in all of them he was a good student, diligent and diligent. He had a good Lev, and he loved to help anyone in need: the elderly and the elderly, who would help them cross the road safely and carry their burden to their homes, and to the homeless and homeless children who used to stay at home and take care of their needs. He was a member of the Ha – Tsofim youth movement and the Ha – Shomer ha – Tsa’ir youth movement. During his vacations he used to work at the Renaissance publishing house in Haifa, whose owner became friends. The spirit of volunteerism flourished within him, and he devoted much of his time to the Civil Guard and received a certificate of appreciation from the head of the Civil Guard. As part of the Civil Guard, Ofer participated in shooting competitions, and took part in the Jordan Valley march. Ofer was a painter and an artist in his soul. His paintings adorn his parents’ home, one of his three-meter-long photographs, in the cultural center of Shimshon. He was also a collector, he had a collection of stamps, coins, commandos and swords. Ofer was modest, shy and humble and loved by all he knew. Ofer was drafted into the IDF in mid-July 1983. After basic training, he completed additional professional courses and was sent to an armaments workshop in Lebanon for 19 consecutive months as a man in the workshop, On the 17th of Adar 5745 (October 10, 1985), Corporal Ofer was killed in a battle in Lebanon and was brought to rest in the military cemetery. In Haifa. He left behind his parents and two brothers. In his letter of condolence to the grieving family, his commander wrote: “I have known him for a year and four months since his arrival in the unit. Was a loyal friend and true friend who helped his friends, contributed greatly to the friendship relations in the workshop and maintained a high morale, was loved and accepted by his friends and commanders. ” His parents set up a memorial candle for him in a synagogue in Haifa. The owner of the “Renaissance” publishing house, Mr. Gurfinkel, donated 93 books to him as a “Dayan Dayan” for the establishment of a library in his name in one of the IDF units
