Dayan, Daniel (Danny)

Dayan, Daniel (Danny)

Was born on September 10, 1962 in Moshav Talmei Eliezer near Hadera. Danny studied first and second grades at the Sitzkach school in Moshav Sde Yitzhak. He continued to study in the third and sixth grades at the Alonim school in Pardes Hannah and completed his studies at the agricultural school in Pardes Hannah. From a Yaffa child with bright curls and bright eyes, Danny grew up and grew over the years into a sturdy, tall man with broad shoulders and a captivating smile, a reasonable and intelligent fellow, serious and joking. As a son of a family of agricultural workers, Danny contributed his part in the family farm. Even during his vacations from the agricultural school, he worked tirelessly and promoted the agriculture to the best of his abilities. Danny was a model student. Every year he received a certificate of appreciation and medals, for his excellence in studies and for his attitude toward work and the agriculture. Danny reached out a helping hand to the needy. During his studies, Danny was a member of the “Youth for Youth” organization, and did a lot of sports. The goal: to make his body fit to a satisfactory physical fitness, so that during enlistment he can volunteer for the paratroopers. Daniel was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of November 1980, and was clear: Paratroopers, a platoon commander, and a platoon commander. Danny had only one pride: he was proud of belonging to the “national team.” Danny’s good qualities, and especially the willingness to help others, were expressed in his company. He was always willing to lend a hand, to help, to support. His performance was excellent, and his sense of responsibility and devotion to the job earned him the sympathy of his colleagues and the prestige of his commanders. Danny was also saved from working in the family farm because he believed in the slogan: “If agriculture here is a homeland here.” When the Peace for Galilee war broke out, Danny and his company went north and took part in landing on the Awali coast and in an assault on Sidon. On the 18th of Sivan, 5762 (1982), Sgt. Daniel fell in battle in Lebanon, when a single man attacked a terrorist squad and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Pardes Hannah. He left behind his parents, three sisters and a brother. After they fell, a fourth sister was born in the family.
