Dayan, Dan


Son of Yona and Yona. He was born on May 5, 1936 in a kibbutz near Gedera. At the age of seven, he moved with his family and kibbutz to a settlement in the Upper Galilee, and since then the kibbutz was known as Kfar Szold. Where he graduated from elementary school and continued in the following classes. Was an excellent athlete and instructed his younger friends in camping and sports. He responded to the call of the Hakibbutz Hameuchad Brigade, came to the aid of young farms and did his work quietly and modestly, willingly and with distinction. In August 1954, he was drafted into the IDF and was among the fighters in Egypt in the Israeli territory. On one of these battles, on February 28, 1955, he fell with his seven comrades in the Gaza vicinity, helping to remove his wounded commander from the combat zone In a crossfire. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kfar Sold, and he was the first grave in the farm of his eldest son. The kibbutz published a book in his memory; He also set up a memorial corner within the school’s landscape. On the first anniversary of his death, a street named after him is called Kiryat Shmona, which is the town near Kfar Szold. The Dan Dayan Parade, attended by schoolchildren and members of the agriculture and the outstanding team wins the Wandering Cup in his name, which is given at the census and at the ceremony of the local residents. His memory was mentioned in Uri Milstein’s book, “The Paratroop Wars.”
