Davidovich, Menachem (Mendy)
Son of Chaya-Reiza and Tuvia was born on 28.1.1924 in the city of Slatfina, Czechoslovakia. He attended elementary school until he was forced to leave because of the difficult material situation at home, and moved to a working life. During the Second World War he served in the Hungarian army and was later interned in a concentration camp, where he dreamed of the day of liberation and the immigration to Eretz Israel. On January 3, 1946 he arrived in Israel on the ship “Enzo Sereni”. Menachem settled in Tel Aviv, in the Shapira neighborhood, and worked as a laborer. On January 3, 1948, he joined the Givati Brigade. In an attempt to conquer the 113th Regiment on the eve of the Second Truce, on the 11th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948), he fell during an act of heroism. In the course of the battle, one of his company men, who were not familiar with him, was wounded. Menachem, who saw him wallowing in his blood, entered the area of fire and began to drag him to a shelter to provide him with first aid. While he was engaged in this rescue operation, the enemy bullet hit him and he fell with his wounded friend, who was still alive, in his hands. A few months later, upon the capture of the outpost he was fighting during Operation Yoav, he was brought to the World War II in the Warburg Military Cemetery on 18 November 1948.
