David, Gershon

Gershon, son of Hannah and Menahem, was born on 8 August 1949 in Kibbutz Beit Hashita, and completed his elementary and high school studies at the kibbutz school. He liked to “go wild”, to do things spontaneously and to make his friends Simcha, and he was one of the initiators of setting up a discotheque for young people in the kibbutz. On the basis of an internal impulse that came from a world view: to try to connect between distant and distant, between the individual and the society He helped the volunteers and the students in the studio in the difficult way of integration and absorption, taught, advised, guided and befriended, and his willingness to assist and help was a thing in the agriculture. He devoted himself to reading and listening to music in his room on the kibbutz. He took part in a photography course in his area of residence and tried to express mainly his love for Kibbutz Beit Hashita and the surrounding landscape. During his studies, he chose to work in the orchard and soon found himself fascinated by the work there, the possibilities inherent in it, and the importance of manual labor. During the Six-Day War, while he was a boy, he served as the center of the orchard industry and won the appreciation of the members of the agriculture in general and the industry in particular. He excelled in kindness, kindness, peace of mind and self-control. These qualities helped him to bear the burden of responsibility that he had been given or had taken upon himself. Gershon was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in October 1967 and volunteered for the Israel Air Force, after completing a period of one and a half years in a tank training course, where he was assigned to a tank training course. Many of whom had completed his army duties, and had given up on the possibility of advancing in his position, such as going to an officers’ course, because he wanted to return to his kibbutz as soon as possible. , And invested much energy, will and effort in their development, improvement and improvement He worked tirelessly and did not allow himself time to deal with anything else, mainly because of his desire to do with his own hands and because of his opposition in principle to hired work. The orchard on its own, and even opened and expanded it, but nevertheless found time to engage in the field of instruction, which he attached great importance to, and was able to work with people. All the workers of the orchard loved their work and gave it to them mainly thanks to Gershon. For a long time, Gershon longed to go on vacation, study flight, and get a pilot’s license. In this way he sought to fulfill two desires: one – to provide his great love for the flight, to hover high above the landscapes he loved, and the other to develop the possibilities of spraying fields and orchards from the air. This dream was not enough for Gershon to realize. At first this was prevented by the labor overload in the orchard, the commitments to the agriculture and the great responsibility it assumed – and then the Yom Kippur War broke out. During the Yom Kippur War, Gershon took part in the battle against the Egyptians on the Sinai front. In a battle that took place in the area of the “Chinese Farm” near the junction of the “Tartur Lexicon” on October 16, 1973, his tank was hit and he was killed and brought to rest in the Beit Hashita cemetery. After his fall, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and Kibbutz Beit Hashita published a pamphlet in his memory, containing fragments of letters he wrote and friends’ comments about his character.
