David, Eliyahu (Pinchas)

David, Eliyahu (Pinchas)

Son of Yosef and Lulu. Was born on July 12, 1947 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. In 1951 the family immigrated to Israel. When he reached school age Eliyahu studied at the “Shivat Zion” elementary school in Or Yehuda. His teachers loved him very much for his diligence. From childhood he dreamed of being a sailor and all his thoughts were on the sea. During all his free hours after school, he sat and sketched ships and made all kinds of woodwork in the form of ships. When he finished elementary school, he enrolled in the naval officers’ school in Acre, where his teacher, teachers and teachers helped him progress. He loved sports and especially soccer and was a fan of Bnei Yehuda in Tel Aviv. Among his hobbies are the collection of stamps in Israel and abroad, the collection of coins from Israel and abroad, and the collection of various symbols and national flags. David was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in September 1966 and began his service at the Eilat branch. When asked once if he says to spend his entire life at sea, he answered: “Hashem will help me – and I will help my country more.” But he did not have time to serve the full compulsory service, because on October 18, 1967) the destroyer “Eilat” was drowned by Egyptian missiles in front of the Romanian coast in northern Sinai, and thus died with the rest of his friends. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. A booklet published by the regional council of Or Yehuda commemorates his name. A commemorative memorial was erected near the sports hall in Neve Monosson.
