David, Eliahu (Bering)


Son of Frieda and Isaac. He was born in April 1905 in Dubna, Poland, where he studied Torah at the Yeshiva and at his father’s home, and later went on to high school, together with a group of friends who founded the Hechalutz cell in Dubno. In 1925 he worked as a laborer in the orchard and found diligence in his work, and in the evenings he studied abroad and received a matriculation certificate, and in 1929 he went to the city of Nancy, France, where he studied agriculture and received an agronomist degree. And worked in Citrus Inspection, but continued his studies by way of correspondence towards the title of Agricultural Engineer He married his past, the daughter of Dr. Mazuz-Cohen, the founder of the Herzliya Gymnasium in Tel Aviv, and the couple’s home was an example of hospitality and welfare for anyone seeking help and work. In the summer of 1938 he enlisted on behalf of “Kofar Hishuv” in defense of Kibbutz Gan Shmuel, and in the course of his duties he fell on the 14th of Av, 1938. He was laid to rest in the old cemetery on Trumpeldor Street, Tel Aviv. He was 33 years old when he fell. Lay a wife, daughter, and parents. In his memoirs, his close friend testified: “He loves the Land of Israel with great love, with a pure soul, with the little truths who say little and do a lot … His decision is an iron decision. His name was immortalized in the Dubna book and a list in his memory was published in the Davar newspaper on September 16, 1938.
