David, Adolf


Son of Rosa and Wolf, was born on Nov. 11, 1912 in Vienna, the capital of Austria. In 1933, when he immigrated to Israel, he settled in Jerusalem. In May 1948, he enlisted in full service. He was one of the courageous defenders of Jerusalem and did not abandon his unit even after he was wounded. On the 11th of Tammuz 5708 (July 18, 1948), when he was at the observation post on the roof of one of Mandelbaum’s houses, he saw a cannon that was directed at the house. He went down to warn his friends, but it was too late. The house was fired upon, collapsed and he was buried under the rubble. Aldof was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. He left a wife, Penina, a daughter and a son and elderly parents. His mother died in grief shortly after his death. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
